I have a doorbell that takes video.
Today I watched a clip of my daughter and I leaving the house. In the video, as I lock the door my daughter walks out of the house and waits for me. I turn around and walk right by her to the car. My heart aches and breaks thinking about it.
What was I doing in that moment that was more important than seeing her and giving her a hug or a kiss on top of her head. Now, she may have been looking at something on the ground or thinking about her next snack. But upon review??
I was a shitty dad who was not paying attention and who was just concerned about getting into the car and getting to the next thing. Next time… Next time I’m not going to miss that opportunity.
Sometimes we don’t know what’s going on until we review the tape from the doorbell. Any moment could be a moment where we can show our kids we care and that we see them.
